How to send YouTube videos to your TV with Raspberry Pi

I always wanted to be able to send YouTube videos to my tv. Even with Apple TV and all the extensions, it wasn’t a pleasant experience; until today!

This guide works for Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux. Here is what you need:

  • A TV with HDMI port
  • Raspberry Pi
  • SD Card reader
  • Chrome browser

Firstly, you need to install OpenELEC (OpenELEC has XBMC preinstalled right out of the box) on Raspberry Pi (Windows, OSX, Linux).

Then head over to Chrome and install Tube To TV extension. in Tube ToTV options, just add your Raspberry Pi IP and save (you can add a username password too. it’s the user pass you set on YouTube addon on XBMC).

Now you can send any YouTube video to XBMC (it plays HD automatically too!). Just click on “Send to XBMC” button (see picture below).  First time you send a video to XBMC, it may ask you to install YouTube addon.

Here is the coolest part, you can even queue them up! just click on the + button next to Send to XBMC to add the video to playlist.

Don’t forget to share the fun with your friends.
